GENERATION OF ENTANGLED STATES OF TWO DISTANT CAVITY MODES VIA JOSEPHSON JUNCTION BASED DEVICES

2007

We present a simple scheme for the preparation of entangled states of the e.m. modes of two spatially separated microwave cavities exploiting their interaction with two superconducting SQUID rings embedded within them. The scheme requires that the two SQUID qubits are initially prepared in an entangled state and the possibility of controlling both the coupling strengths and the interaction times. We also briefly discuss the importance of such a theoretical scheme in view of possible applications in the context of quantum computing and its experimental feasibility.

Physical model for the generation of ideal resources in multipartite quantum networking

2010

We propose a physical model for generating multipartite entangled states of spin-$s$ particles that have important applications in distributed quantum information processing. Our protocol is based on a process where mobile spins induce the interaction among remote scattering centers. As such, a major advantage lies on the management of stationary and well separated spins. Among the generable states, there is a class of $N$-qubit singlets allowing for optimal quantum telecloning in a scalable and controllable way. We also show how to prepare Aharonov, W and Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states.

Entanglement replication in driven-dissipative many body systems

2012

We study the dissipative dynamics of two independent arrays of many-body systems, locally driven by a common entangled field. We show that in the steady state the entanglement of the driving field is reproduced in an arbitrarily large series of inter-array entangled pairs over all distances. Local nonclassical driving thus realizes a scale-free entanglement replication and long-distance entanglement distribution mechanism that has immediate bearing on the implementation of quantum communication networks.

Genuine tripartite entanglement in a spin-star network at thermal equilibrium

2010

In a recent paper [M. Huber {\it et al}, Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 104}, 210501 (2010)] new criteria to find out the presence of multipartite entanglement have been given. We exploit these tools in order to study thermal entanglement in a spin-star network made of three peripheral spins interacting with a central one. Genuine tripartite entanglement is found in a wide range of the relevant parameters. A comparison between predictions based on the new criteria and on the tripartite negativity is also given.

Dynamics and extraction of quantum discord in a multipartite open system

2011

We consider a multipartite system consisting of two noninteracting qubits each embedded in a single-mode leaky cavity, in turn connected to an external bosonic reservoir. Initially, we take the two qubits in an entangled state while the cavities and the reservoirs have zero photons. We investigate, in this six-partite quantum system, the transfer of quantum discord from the qubits to the cavities and reservoirs. We show that this transfer occurs also when the cavities are not entangled. Moreover, we discuss how quantum discord can be extracted from the cavities and transferred to distant systems by traveling leaking photons, using the input-output theory.

Enhancing coherence in molecular spin qubits via atomic clock transitions

2016

Quantum computing is an emerging area within the information sciences revolving around the concept of quantum bits (qubits). A major obstacle is the extreme fragility of these qubits due to interactions with their environment that destroy their quantumness. This phenomenon, known as decoherence, is of fundamental interest1,2. There are many competing candidates for qubits, including superconducting circuits3, quantum optical cavities4, ultracold atoms5 and spin qubits6,7,8, and each has its strengths and weaknesses. When dealing with spin qubits, the strongest source of decoherence is the magnetic dipolar interaction9. To minimize it, spins are typically diluted in a diamagnetic matrix. For…

Macroscopic entanglement in Josephson nanocircuits

2001

We propose a scheme to generate and detect entanglement between charge states in superconducting nanocircuits. We discuss different procedures to discriminate such entanglement from classical correlations. The case of maximally entangled states of two and three coupled Josephson junctions is discussed as example.

Heat Capacity and Entanglement Measure in a simple two-qubit model

2011

A simple two-qubit model showing Quantum Phase Transitions as a consequence of ground state level crossings is studied in detail. Using the Concurrence of the system as an entanglement measure and heat capacity as a marker of thermodynamical properties, an analytical expression giving the latter in terms of the former is obtained. A protocol allowing an experimental measure of entanglement is then presented and compared with a related proposal recently reported by Wie\'sniak, Vedral and Brukner

Entanglement generation and protection by detuning modulation

2006

We introduce a protocol for steady-state entanglement generation and protection based on detuning modulation in the dissipative interaction between a two-qubit system and a bosonic mode. The protocol is a global-addressing scheme which only requires control over the system as a whole. We describe a postselection procedure to project the register state onto a subspace of maximally entangled states. We also outline how our proposal can be implemented in a circuit-quantum electrodynamics setup.

Adiabatic creation of entangled states by a bichromatic field designed from the topology of the dressed eigenenergies

2002

Preparation of entangled pairs of coupled two-state systems driven by a bichromatic external field is studied. We use a system of two coupled spin-1/2 that can be translated into a three-state ladder model whose intermediate state represents the entangled state. We show that this entangled state can be prepared in a robust way with appropriate fields. Their frequencies and envelopes are derived from the topological properties of the model.
